Today, I’m proud to announce that ForceMetrics has secured $22 million in funding. This investment was led by Costanoa Ventures, with additional backing from the Hobson Lucas Family Foundation (founded by Mellody Hobson and George Lucas), GovTech Fund, Flybridge Capital, Stand Together Venture Labs, Growth Warrior Capital, and other key partners. With their support, we’re scaling that vision to more cities and counties across the country.
ForceMetrics is the only proactive decision-assist platform for first responders, providing real-time, actionable intelligence during 911 interactions. During a police call for service, dispatchers and officers are both trying to quickly gather as much information as possible while determining if someone is going to harm others, harm themselves and what underlying issues are important to know such as prior mental health needs, dementia, autism, issues with domestic violence, issues trusting others, and more. With ForceMetrics, the same dispatchers and officers can use the ForceMetrics platform to surface these same safety and social needs on a person, location, or situation in milliseconds on the smartphone in their pocket without having to read pages and pages of police reports.
The idea for ForceMetrics didn’t come from a boardroom or a tech incubator. It came from lived experience. As an FBI agent, I was all too aware of how the lack of immediately available data could turn a routine situation into a dangerous one. It hurts everyday that my FBI Academy classmate Dan Alfin was shot and killed in 2021 along with his partner Laura Schwartzenberger on what any of us would have considered a routine search warrant. I knew that if law enforcement officers had the right information at the right time, we could prevent tragedies before they happened. ForceMetrics was started with the goal of equipping every first responder with that data—whether they’re dealing with a 911 call, a traffic stop, a complex emergency, or that very same routine situation.
To truly understand what was missing, we put software engineers in cop cars for ride-alongs across the country. We watched them pull people over, respond to domestic violence calls, and handle countless emergencies, all while waiting for outdated systems to return critical information—often taking 10, 20, even 30 minutes to return information. It became clear that technology was failing them in moments when every second counted. That’s when we knew what we needed to build: a platform that could immediately surface crucial data in an easy-to-use format, right at the point of need.
ForceMetrics wasn’t built just for the real-time crime centers and analysts; it’s for the officer on patrol at 2 a.m., the dispatcher fielding emergency calls, the firefighter responding to a welfare check. We’ve made our platform intuitive, mobile-ready, and easy to use in the field, because when seconds matter, every piece of information counts. At ForceMetrics, we believe that safety starts with understanding— understanding the situation, the people involved, and the risks at hand. That’s the foundation our mission is built on.
As a Black man who grew up in the inner city of Denver and later became an FBI agent, I’ve often found myself at the intersection of two worlds. I’ve lived the reality of being pulled over more times than I can count, handcuffed and sat on the curb, despite having no criminal record and later carrying the gold badge of the FBI. But I’ve also been the law enforcement officer wrestling a subject to the ground trying to survive, having to make life-or-death decisions with only half the information I needed. Navigating this duality—being both Black and blue—has shaped my life, my career, and ultimately, the creation of ForceMetrics.
After George Floyd’s death, I felt a deep sense of urgency. That summer, I spoke to over 30 police leaders, listening to their frustrations about outdated software that wasn’t helping officers make better decisions—the ones on the ground answering 911 calls every minute. What I heard over and over again was the same thing I had experienced in the field: We have data, in fact lots of data, but we don’t have the tools to use it effectively and in-the-moment when seconds count. That’s why I founded ForceMetrics—to bridge the gap and provide first responders with real-time, actionable insights that could save lives and prevent unnecessary escalation.
Over the past few years, we’ve grown rapidly. Our platform is now being used by police departments, fire departments, and dispatch centers across eleven states, including cities like Aurora CO, Alexandria VA, Greensboro NC, Beverly Hills CA and Waco TX. More than 400,000 pieces of critical information—from mental health needs to lost and kidnapped kids found—have been surfaced within the last year through our platform, empowering officers to make safer decisions in the moment.
In 2024 alone, ForceMetrics helped find three suspected school shooters in seconds after the threat call came in thanks to the real-time data surfaced on our platform. These are the kinds of life-saving results that show the power of giving officers the information they need when they need it most.
Some of our key impacts include:
These numbers are more than just stats—they represent real people, real lives, and real change.
This $22 million investment isn’t just about growth—it’s about transformation. Our mission has always been to make responders safer and more effective by fundamentally changing how public safety agencies use data. For too long, officers, dispatchers, and first responders have been forced to operate in the dark, relying on outdated systems that slow them down and put lives at risk. ForceMetrics is here to change that.
With this funding, we’re accelerating our efforts to bring our real-time decision-assist platform to even more agencies across the country. Our technology allows first responders to access the critical information they need instantly—whether they’re in the middle of a 911 call, responding to a crisis, or conducting a routine traffic stop. We’re not just providing them with data—we’re giving them context, insights, and the ability to make faster, more informed decisions.
We know that seconds actually matter in emergency situations. With ForceMetrics, those seconds become milliseconds to identify people in need, prevent tragedies, de-escalate dangerous situations, and ultimately save lives. By consolidating data from multiple sources—like dispatch (CAD), police reports (RMS), and social services—our platform enables officers to have a full picture of the situation before they step out of the car or knock on the door in the field.
Here’s what we’re focused on next:
We’re not just trying to improve efficiency—we’re reshaping the future of public safety. By empowering officers with real-time, actionable insights, we’re helping to create a world where communities and law enforcement can trust that the right decisions are being made. Thank you to my ForceMetrics team and especially my co-founders, Brendan Cronin, Chris Kersulic, Shane McGregor, and Jason Truppi for their relentless energy and drive to build what we said we would build and grow in ways never imagined.
With ForceMetrics, public safety doesn’t have to be about waiting for a crisis to escalate. It’s about using data intelligently to protect communities before problems arise. And this is just the beginning.
